“A job applicant tried to bribe me during the interview. She really wanted the job and asked how much she could pay me for it.”

This is just one of the amusing comments our company received when we asked office professionals to recount the biggest job search mistakes they had heard of or witnessed firsthand. Responses to our recent survey ran the gamut from colossal, one-of-a-kind mishaps (like the error above) to smaller, more mundane faux pas.

Following are examples of typical job search blunders and tips on how you can avoid them:

“One gentleman submitted a résumé that contained misspelled words and an orange juice stain.”
The importance of carefully proofreading your job-application materials can’t be overstated. Submitting a résumé or cover letter with spelling or typographical errors is a surefire way to make a lousy impression on a prospective employer. On the other hand, by crafting well-written — and stain-free — documents, you’ll send the message that you are a polished, detail-oriented professional.

“A job seeker wrote on her application, ‘My boss was a jerk so I quit.’”
Badmouthing former employers, colleagues or clients in an application or during a job interview is always dangerous. For one, it’s a small world: Your “jerky” former boss might be the hiring manager’s golf partner. In addition, being negative or critical will make you seem bitter or petty. It’s far better to show tact and diplomacy when discussing past workplace challenges.

“An applicant treated the administrative support staff badly.”
When visiting a company for a job interview, be respectful, polite and affable to those you encounter — from the department head to the mail clerk or intern. Hiring managers look for insights into your character by paying close attention to how you treat everyone, not just the higher-ups. Being rude or dismissive to a receptionist has come back to haunt many a job applicant. Remember: You never know who may weigh in on hiring decisions.

“Applicants have shown up for interviews in torn shirts, blue jeans and flip-flops.”
You never get a second chance to make a first impression, and surveys have shown that personal attire is closely linked to professional image. In short, dress your best for a job interview. Even though dress codes have become more relaxed in many workplaces, a job interview is not the appropriate venue to showcase your eclectic or laid-back sense of style. Wear clean and neatly pressed business attire, don’t go overboard with distracting jewelry, and take it easy on the perfume or cologne.

“I interviewed someone who had a jawbreaker in her mouth during the entire interview.”
Interviewers can learn a lot about a job applicant even when words aren’t being spoken. Subtle nonverbal clues can indicate a lack of interest, uneasiness or failure to properly prepare for the meeting, so it’s crucial you pay attention to your body language. Exhibiting poor posture, crossing your arms, chewing gum or having a tense look on your face can send a negative message. Appearing restless by checking your watch on the sly or playing with your hair also are definite no-nos. While it’s understandable to be nervous, try to relax and focus on maintaining eye contact and a pleasant smile.

“One woman immediately mentioned the days she would need to take off.”
When interviewing for a job, you need to clearly and succinctly define what you can do for the prospective employer — not what you can’t. Nor should you tell them what they should do for you. For example, do not go into an initial interview and make demands about salary, perks or vacation time. Once a job offer is extended, you can discuss money, benefits and time off.

“When asked what he had been doing while unemployed, the applicant said, ‘Staying home and watching TV.’”
How you spend your time when you’re out of a job still speaks to your work ethic. In addition to applying for jobs, you should continue to build your professional skills. For instance, take a computer course at the local college, volunteer with a nonprofit organization to hone a particular ability, or get more involved with an industry association. Show prospective employers you’re working hard to expand your skill set and remain at the forefront of your industry.

Knowing how to deftly navigate the employment application and interview process is key, but don’t forget it doesn’t end once you’ve met with a firm. Survey respondents noted that failing to follow up after an employment interview or constantly calling to see if they got the job also were major mistakes. Continue to display your job-search savvy by sending a handwritten note to the hiring manager thanking him or her for the time and reasserting your interest in the job.

Arthritis literally means “inflammation of a joint.” In some forms of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, the inflammation arises because the smooth covering (articular cartilage) on the ends of bones become damaged or worn. Osteoarthritis is usually found in one, usually weight-bearing, joint.

In other forms of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, the joint lining becomes inflamed as part of a disease process that affects the entire body. Some other types of arthritis are: seronegative spondyloarthropathies, crystalline deposition disease, and septic arthritis.

Arthritis is a major cause of lost work time and serious disability for many people. Although arthritis is mainly a disease of adults, children may also have it.

Anatomy

Arthritis is a disease of the joint. A joint is where the ends of two or more bones meet. The knee joint, for example, is formed between the bones of lower leg (the tibia and the fibula) and the thighbone (the femur). The hip joint is where the top of the thighbone (femoral head) meets a concave portion of the pelvis (the acetabulum).

A smooth tissue of cartilage covers the ends of bones in a joint. Cartilage cushions the bone and allows the joint to move easily without the friction that would come with bone-on-bone contact. A joint is enclosed by a fibrous envelope, called the synovium, which produces a fluid that also helps to reduce friction and wear in a joint. Ligaments connect the bones and keep the joint stable. Muscles and tendons power the joint and enable it to move.

Cause

There are two major categories of arthritis.

The first type is caused by wear and tear on the articular cartilage (osteoarthritis) through the natural aging process, through constant use, or through trauma (post-traumatic arthritis). The second type is caused by one of the number of inflammatory processes.

Regardless of whether the cause is from injury, normal wear and tear, or disease, the joint becomes inflamed causing swelling, pain and stiffness. This is usually temporary. Inflammation is one of the body’s normal reactions to injury or disease. In arthritic joints, however, inflammation may cause long-lasting or permanent disability.

Natural History Osteoarthritis

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis. It results from overuse, trauma, or the degeneration of the joint cartilage that takes place with age.

Osteoarthritis is often more painful in joints that bear weight, such as the knee, hip, and spine, elbow, and shoulder joints. However, joints that are used extensively in work or sport or joints that have been damaged from fractures or other injuries may show signs of osteoarthritis. Other disorders that injury or overload the articular cartilage may lead to osteoarthritis.

In osteoarthritis, the cartilage covering the bone ends gradually wears away. In many cases, bone growths called “spurs” develop at the edges of osteoarthritis joints. The bone can become hard and firm (sclerosis). The joint becomes inflamed, causing pain and swelling. Continued use of the joint is painful.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-lasting disease. It is estimated that one percent of the population throughout the world have rheumatoid arthritis. Women are three times more likely than men to have rheumatoid arthritis. The development of rheumatoid arthritis slows with age.

Rheumatoid arthritis affects many parts of the body, but mainly the joints. The body’s immune system, which normally protects the body, begins to produce substances that attack the body. In rheumatoid arthritis, the joint lining swells, invading surrounding tissues. Chemical substances are produced that attack and destroy the joint surface.

Rheumatoid arthritis may affect both large and small joints in the body and also the spine. Swelling, pain, and stiffness usually develop, even when the joint is not used. In some circumstances, juvenile arthritis may cause similar symptoms in children.

Diagnosis

Arthritis is diagnosed through a careful evaluation of symptoms and a physical examination. X-rays are important to show the extent of any damage to the joint. Blood tests may help to determine the type of arthritis. Some of the findings of arthritis include:

Weakness (atrophy) in the muscles

Tenderness to touch

Limited ability to move the joint passively (with assistance) and actively (without assistance)

Signs that other joints are painful or swollen (an indication or rheumatoid arthritis)

A grating feeling or sound (crepitus) with movement

Pan when pressure is placed on the joint or the joint is moved

Exercise and Therapy

Canes, crutches, walkers, or splints may help relieve the stress and strain on arthritis joints. Learning methods of performing daily activities that are the less stressful to painful joints also may be helpful. Certain exercises and physical therapy may be used to decrease stiffness and to strengthen the weakened muscles around the joint.

Parents are the blessings of God, but grandparents are the ‘grand-blessings’ of God. Those who have these blessings are the lucky ones. According to my experience, grandparents are even more loving than your own parents. Parents may scold you, even some of the parents’ abuse and beat up their children if they find them doing anything wrong. But grandparents are not like that, though they tell the kids how to see the different between right and wrong, yet they never treat children harshly. Grandparents just flow their love constantly towards the kids all the time.

Before moving on, let me throw some light on this beautiful relation by quoting my own example. As far as my experience is concerned, I live my Dada (grandfather) even more than my own father. I haven’t seen such a loving person in my life, which always gave and expected nothing but love. I really don’t know how did he always knew what was going on inside my mind; he always fulfilled all my wishes before letting me ask for anything. Since my childhood, I used to sleep with my Dada and he used to tell me stories all night. He used to make me feel like a prince and before going to bed everyday I used to tell him, “Dada, I don’t like this bed sheet, I will sleep on a new one.” And he did whatever I asked him to do. I always accompanied him wherever he went. I still remember those days when he used to withdraw money by my hands from bank. While having ice cream at parlor I used to say, “Dada, Aik yahan khaonga aur aik ghar ja kar” (Grandfather, I will eat one here and will take one home). By quoting al this I want you to understand how living the grandparents are. Grandparents love grandchildren more than their own kids. It was my Dada who bought me my first bicycle and my first car when I grew up. I never had enough courage to ask my father for anything. Whenever I needed anything, I went straight to my Dada. He never refused me. May his soul rest in peace! Ameeeen

The heart of the matter is this that grandparents are as important as parents are. Grandparents act as shell and cover their family like an umbrella of blessing. They shower their love on everyone in a family. They bind us together. They take care of every member of the family, if anyone of us comes home late; their eyes keep on staring at the door, waiting for him/her. Grandparents act like a nucleus of the atom, around which ingredients of a family revolve.

Grandparents are a great support for their grandchildren. No matter how loving and caring parents we have but we can’t think of life without our grandparents. But a few of us are unaware of their unconditional love. Everyone of us know that we are so influenced by western people that respect and love for elders is being gradually deflated. We have started taking them as burden. But such people should keep this is mind that parting form our elders would ultimately results is utter destruction of moral and personal lives and values. You can’t make your building of life higher by removing foundations from the base. These foundations make our bases stronger and stronger to fo higher and higher!

So let’s promise that we will never ever hurt our grandparents and won’t let our parents hurt our grandfathers and will not miss even a single chance to have their shower of blessings. May the fence of grandparents’ love always protect us and keep us safe! Ameen

Maintaining an edge over other candidates is of chief concern for every job seeker. Some gain an advantage by submitting well-crafted application materials, while others set themselves apart with insightful responses during the interview. Increasingly, though, individuals searching for employment are using a different tool: the Internet.

With personal Web sites, blogs, social-networking site profiles, message board posts and newsgroup comments all floating in cyberspace, you can use the Web to present a hiring manager with a wealth of information about your professional qualifications with just a few clicks of the mouse. The key is maintaining a positive online presence. Here’s how:

Leverage the Web
You can act as your own public relations agent by launching a polished and professional Web site or blog related to your career. Post your résumé and links to any industry association articles that you have authored or been quoted in, and reference noteworthy accomplishments or speaking engagements. By highlighting your communication abilities and showing that you track industry news and trends, you can position yourself as a leader in the field, build a positive Web presence and better market your skills to employers.

When applying for an opening, note your URL in your job-application materials and direct hiring managers to the information you most want them to view.

Also consider that some prospective employers may stumble upon online information related to you on their own. So make sure what they discover paints a positive portrait of your professional life. Web sites like Ziggs and ZoomInfo allow you to create your own profile and are popular destinations for hiring managers.

Another good idea is to join a professional association. Some allow you to post your contact information. Becoming a member of a board, presenting at association gatherings and maintaining an active presence in the organization are other ways to ensure your name is referenced in a favorable light on the Internet.

Get Search Savvy
Do you know everything the Internet has to say about you? Seek and ye shall find — type your name into a search engine. If you have a common name, refine the search by placing your name in quotation marks, or add your middle initial, hometown, profession or former employer. Also, be sure to check multiple search engines, as results can vary. Your goal is for references that speak positively about you to appear near the top of the results.

Understand What You’re Up Against
As many job seekers have discovered, the Internet can be an unforgiving place. For instance, you may be unpleasantly surprised to find a link to a controversial editorial you submitted to a newspaper years ago, an unfiltered rant you hastily posted on an online bulletin board in college or unflattering photographs taken at the end of a wild company party. In cases where unsettling personal references seem to be permanent online fixtures, plan to discuss the topic in a job interview. While your online transgressions might not come up, it certainly helps to be prepared just in case.

Going forward, be mindful that digital damage is often self-inflicted. If you have a Web site, blog or a profile on social-networking sites like MySpace or Friendster, review every piece of information you present about yourself. Questionable content might include confession booth-like commentaries detailing personal exploits, politically incorrect or risqué humor, or even seemingly innocuous beach vacation photos. If you’ve posted information that could be detrimental to your job search, hit the delete button and exercise more discretion in the future.

It’s critical that today’s professionals routinely conduct online self-searches, and then seek opportunities to build positive references. Taking a proactive approach to managing your Web presence could help you leap past other applicants and create greater career options for yourself.

The most ignored yet most observed part of our body is our feet. While taking care of our body and face, we actually forget to pay heed to our feet. Feet is the most stressed part of our body as it bears our weight and strains of physical exertion and exposure to dust, sunlight and changing temperature makes them dull, dry are drab. Slowly but surely, they start to look ugly. Many of us don’t really observe that a person’s hygiene is often reflected in the way he takes care of his hand and feet. While hands get washed every so often and we never forget to pamper them with moisturizers and lotions, how can we overlook the part that is more used than our hands? We all need to take out a little bit time from everyday makes a difference in the long-run.

Therapy

Soften your skin by filling a basin with warm water and add the juice of a lemon with one cup oatmeal. Soak feet for ten minutes. While soaking, rub the oatmeal all over your feet to exfoliate. Rinse with warm water.

Make a highly effective foot tonic by micro waving a cup of milk, one tablespoon dry mint leaves, one teaspoon rosemary & one teaspoon peppermint extract. Apply the mixture to feet with a clean, dry cloth. Brush off residue and wrap feet in plastic wrap. Wait five minutes and rinse thoroughly. Make your pedicure last twice as long by choosing a metallic polish. These polish contain minerals that adhere to the nail better, and give off a flattering sheen from any foot.

Get rid of coms by soaking your feet in warm salt water. Buff the affected area with a coarse emery board, and then apply a pineapple slice for five minutes over the com. The enzymes will help to further dissolve the com.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon poppy seeds and one teaspoon baking soda with a few drops of lemon juice. Scrub briskly with a vegetable brush, then rinse thoroughly.

Foot Exercise

Our body needs exercise to stay healthy and function properly. As our feet are part of our body they too need to be exercised. You need to exercise your feet everyday to keep them healthy. The best exercise for your feet is to walk bare feet on the grass in your garden. Here are a few other exercises that you can do to strengthen your feet.

Foot Stretch: Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you. Loop a towel around your feet. Keeping the heels on the floor, pull the towel with both hands. Use the towel to draw the middle foot and toes towards your body. Hold in this position for a few seconds and then relax. Repeat this exercise 5 times.

Ankle Stretch: Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you. Point your foot down and then bring it towards you as far as is comfortable. Hold for a few seconds, then relax and repeat 10 times.

Tips for your feet

Women want not only healthy feet but pretty feet. Many women wear high-heeled or pointy-toed shoes that only add to foot pain and problems, including painful bunions. Women also often spend long hours on their feet. Which can cause the feet, ankles and legs to become swollen and tired. The following tips are recommended to follow at the end of a long day.

Did you know?

The average person, engaging in non-strenuous activity, walks approximately four miles every day and about 115,000 miles in a lifetime. Foot care is much more than a pampering treatment to help you feel good it is an important issue; the earlier we start proper foot care practices the better.

For happy, beautify feet

Wash feet daily: Rinse off all soap and dry thoroughly, especially between toes.

Trim nails straight across, and not too short. Don’t cut out or dig at corners.

Wear shoes that fit properly and are made of leather or canvas.

Sandals are good

Switch shoes from day to day.

Treat your feet

Dry feet thoroughly, especially between toes and massage the feet and ankles with a cooling menthol and camphor gel to improve circulation. It is recommended to use a refreshing gel, which contains Amica and Birch, two ingredients recognized for reducing swelling and relieving pain and discomfort.

Spa Bath – Invest in a foot spa. At the end of the day fill the foot spa with warm water and add a dose of your favorite bath soak, aching muscle super soak is recommended. Soak feet for ten to fifteen minutes to ease tension and improve circulation.

To keep feet free from dry skin and callus’s, use a foot file or pumice stone around the heels and balls of the feet after soaking.

Those prone to athlete’s foot or fungal infections under the nails should spray feet between the toes and under the nails with a natural Tea Tree Spray. Tea Tree is an ingredient known to be one of nature’s strongest antiseptic and anti-fungal agents.

Moisturize feet every night before bed with a rich moisturizing lotion or nourishing oil. Monoi leaves are a precious secret of Polynesian women, who have been using this ingredient for centuries as a nourishing treatment for excessively dry skin and damaged cuticles. When treating the toe nails, always cut them straight across and not too short to prevent ingrown nails. If you do have an ingrown nail see your podiatrist, do not attempt to dig into the comers of the nails or cut down the side. Rub cuticle remover into the cuticles and gently push back the cuticles with a rubber-ended hoof stick or orange wood stick wrapped in cotton. When pushing back the cuticles make sure to soak the feet first to soften the skin and push back gently. Pushing too hard on the base of the nail (the nail matrix) can cause permanent damage and ridging in the nails. Do not be tempted to cut the cuticles, this makes them more raggedy and look worse in the long run.

Ridging in the nail is usually caused by trauma to the nail matrix, often the ridges will grow out but if the trauma is severe the nail may be permanently ridged. To reduce the appearance of ridging use a buffing pastes and soft buffer twice a week to improve smoothness and shine. Buffing the nails is great for nail health as it improves the circulation, as well as leaves the nails beautifully shiny.

Wheel is regard as one of the most significant inventions of mankind. From thereon, cycles, carts, cars, buses, planes, all are human inventions designed to improve the living standards of mankind. Man used car to transport himself, his family and his belongings from one place to another. Over the years, the motor car became the most important and sought after creation of mankind. It started off as a luxury item and ended up being a necessity. No person in today’s world can even imagine living his life without a car. However, lately some of these marvelous inventions of the mankind have been used in such a way that they have become a hassle rather than a providing the comfort, they were meant to. Traffic jams have become an everyday problem nowadays. There are traffic jams leading up to hours, while people who are returning home after a long day can do nothing except cursing other drivers. According to the 2006 World Bank, there are 7,000,000 vehicles on the roads in Pakistan. This not only poses a problem for the commuters, but also has hazardous effects on the climate. Moreover, the ongoing construction work on the roads also causes traffic problems.

On the one hand, the number of cars on the roads have increased tremendously, while on the other hand, drivers display no knowledge or respect for traffic rules and regulations. The worst traffic hours are when children get off from schools and offices have lunch breaks. If you have been on the road from one to three p.m., you know what that means. There is almost one car per child that goes to school, hence causing the gigantic traffic jams. It is almost next to impossible to find a parking space anywhere near the school, and there are rows of cars parked up to the end of streets. It is a sad truth that we live in a very status conscious society, where the worth of a person is judged from the size of his house and more often from the make and model of the car that he or she drives. Hence, the trend of riding in school buses and vans is becoming obsolete. Moreover, one cannot deny the fact that school vans are very unreliable and undependable. So, most of the parent have no other option than to pick and drop children themselves.

One very simple and effective method that can be used to counter traffic jams, pollution, wastage of time and energy is car pooling. Car pooling is term that means three or four people who live nearby and have to reach the same destination, share a ride with each other. This is a very effective method of saving petrol time and energy. With the skyrocketing fuel prices, it is becoming harder and harder for the common man to maintain his traveling expenses. Car pooling helps a lot in this respect as people who carpool together share the cost of fuel and maintenance.

With the advent in technology, it is becoming more and more important that we act responsibly so that the inventions that are meant to make our life easy do no turn tables on us. Moreover, we have responsibility towards our planet, so we must adopt healthier ways of life that ensure a safer place for all of us to live in. so, go on and find a carpool buddy for yourself and your kid. You can be the first one to start positive chain reaction in this regard.

Employers have many established processes for screening job candidates. Companies use detailed job descriptions to highlight the qualities they hope to find in the ideal applicant. Hiring managers also thoroughly review résumés and other job-application materials, in addition to asking pointed interview questions and checking references. During your next job search, consider using these same approaches to locate an organization that is right for you.

For the past few years, people had been struggling to find employment, and many took whatever work they could find. Now, however, job seekers have more leverage in the hiring process and, therefore, the freedom to be somewhat choosier than before.

According to the “Employment Dynamics and Growth Expectations (EDGE) Report” by Robert Half International and CareerBuilder.com, hiring managers are struggling to overcome a “shortage of qualified workers.” As a result, those candidates with the most in-demand skill sets are in the driver’s seat. Following are tips for finding the job that’s right for you.

Write a description of your ideal employer

When companies need to fill a position, they develop a job description outlining the exact skills and experience they want in an employee. Take a page from the human resources department’s playbook by creating a comprehensive list of the qualities you most desire in an employer.

For some professionals, the requirement list will include incentive programs, a fast-paced work environment and opportunities for quick advancement. For others, tuition reimbursement, access to training programs and a flexible work schedule will be the most important factors.

Getting your priorities down on paper will help you synthesize your job-related thoughts, expectations and goals. A description of your ideal company also will help you quickly eliminate employers that don’t align with your personality and career aspirations.

Evaluate the company’s “résumé”

Job seekers promote themselves through résumés, cover letters and portfolios. Employers produce their own forms of promotion, namely annual reports, marketing brochures, fact sheets and Web site copy. You can gain tremendous insight into a company by reading these “résumé” components and looking for answers to the questions most important to you, such as:

How long has the prospective employer been in operation?

Does the company appear to be growing? If not, does it at least seem stable?

How large is the organization?

Is the company an industry leader?

What awards, if any, has the firm won?

How active is the company within its community?

Interview the firm

During job interviews, hiring managers ask a series of questions designed to uncover clues about your strengths, weaknesses, attitudes, goals and overall work history. But don’t let the interviewer monopolize the discussion. Walk into the meeting prepared to ask questions of your own.

Use the research you conducted prior to the interview to frame your queries. By conducting a “reverse interview,” you’ll elicit key information about the company, its culture and philosophy, and the role for which you’re applying.

If, for instance, you discover that many of the company’s top executives once worked staff-level jobs, you might consider asking questions such as:

How long do individuals typically spend in the same role before being promoted?

Are promotions based more heavily on seniority or merit?

Is the job open because the person who held it before received a promotion?

These questions will help you understand if advancement occurs at all levels of the organization and how long it will likely take for you to move up.

You also can learn a lot by paying attention to the intangibles. Was the hiring manager disorganized or late? Did the other employees you encounter seem tense or hurried? If so, that might point to a high-stress work environment. The extra information you gather through astute observation can be just as telling as the responses you receive to your questions.

Conduct a reference check

Before companies extend job offers, they check references. You should be equally diligent with your detective work. Prior to accepting a new position, tap into your professional and personal network for information about the prospective employer. Ask around to see what experiences your business associates, family, friends and former classmates may have had with the company. You also can search the Internet for news stories about the organization.

The goal is to make sure that the word-of-mouth anecdotes and media reports align with what the company says about itself. If there are significant discrepancies, you’ll want to take that into consideration during your decision-making process. You might even call the hiring manager to clarify any sticking points.

Savvy employers have long used a variety of tried-and-true methods to make informed employment decisions. By using the tactics highlighted above, you can do the same.

Unemployment is the scare-word of recent times. The rising job-insecurity tailgates this fear once one has managed to get a job. In the wake of the recent financial turmoil emerging from the ‘Great Depression’ of Lehman Brothers and American International Group (AIG), it is suspected the global economy is faced by a final crunch leading to an end of American financial capitalism. At home, the situation seems unpleasant too as Pakistan has rundown its foreign reserves to $3 billion. The country is on the run for financial rescue plan as this amount could only last us for another three months. As for its consequences, unemployment is already at an all time high nationally and internationally. Recently a report on International news channel was quoted as saying that Europe’s biggest bank had furloughed almost 80,000 employees from its banks from around the world. Whatever the global problems, but in developing countries like ours, it comes as no surprise.

If we delve a little into the recent past, just in the month of August 2008, the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) laid-off around 0,000 employees due to government’s funding being suspended. This was a major set-back to the employees and the people who were benefiting from the human rights services of this organization mainly in the areas of poverty, health, education, gender empowerment, food, justice etc. The demanded budget of Rs 874 million by the organization was reduced 50 percent by the government leading to large scale downsizing.

The year 2008 started with closing down of almost 70 percent of textile units rendering more than 15 percent daily wagers unemployed. This has been a reason for an increase in crime an suicide rates consequently. It is government’s responsibility to help these down-trodden to make both ends meet. Rather than generously misspending for hosting iftar-dinners, they should have thought practically about the seriousness of the problem that was fast approaching and had assumed dire proportions. The national exchequer cannot be splurged with such brutality, while the whole country is crying to gain access to basic commodities.

Amid all the fiscal deficit commotion, the common man is left to contemplate his future with no good hopes. The civil government has so far not make any positive statement about the prospect of creating job opportunities while the laymen is suffering the plight of everyday increasing cost of routine items. Let’s come to the youth, that’s the linchpin of any economy. They again according to the higher order and lower order are divided into this discriminatory group. While the rich enjoys the influence of strong pedigree, the poor ones are left to struggle. The former have all the perks and benefits of having easy access to getting a job while the latter would have to make do with petty jobs. And there’s no question of who is deserving or not. Vast majority is not given the fair crack of the whip, which is a testimony to inequality, the corner stone for violence and extremism. While we have been discussing this problem for so long, there’s no word about any solution. Humain ye karna Chahiye and hum ye karain gay are the phrases that seem to belie our leaders of tall claims. Maybe they themselves are badly shaken up by the ongoing crisis so much that they have lost the sense of what to say and how many times to keep repeating it despite rounds of failed speeches an public appearances.

The point, however, remains that recommendations remain paramount if one is seeking a good job. If you have an influential social group, you are lucky, and if not, then you are destined to be bayrozgar. That’s the reason why some prefer government jobs over private organizations as they have job security they see a better long-term future after their long services, whereas the private has its own perks and privileges but comes with some issues like organizational downturn and job insecurities. This too falls under the government’s responsibilities and benefits to better the job situation.

Being a patriot I feel ashamed of being dependent on foreign funding and economic support. Still our leader our busy filling up their own pockets one after another. Now that Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed to the government to provide economic support worth $500 million, it’s hoped that like previous many amount this would not be tainted.

As the President says, I don’t want to give fish; rather I want to teach people how to fish so I could tell may country how to survive. Hmm quite fishy though but ending on a note of fading anticipation, this cloud will have its silver lining too, and so, this story will meet its fate soon.

Gina is dressed in an expensive, new — and slightly itchy — suit, hoping that the mint she almost choked on is masking the smell from the chili she unwisely chose to eat at lunch and willing the sweat glands in her palms to behave until she at least has shaken hands.

Will is also wearing a new suit. He’s simultaneously trying to cover up the stain from the coffee he just spilled on himself, generate what he hopes is intelligent conversation and maintain eye contact.

One of these people is on a first date, the other is at a job interview, but which is which? In both instances, each was trying to impress and get to know someone else, figure out what the other person had to offer, and ultimately decide if he or she wanted to commit to that person on a long-term basis. Both the date and the job interview can generate feelings of excitement and nervousness, and their outcomes can mean the difference between starting from scratch or living happily ever after.

Ten years ago, Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider co-wrote the best-selling book “The Rules,” a guide based on the authors’ own experiences to help women find and keep “Mr. Right,” and have since written various other versions of the book. Sure, it’s not the most feminism-forward piece of literature, and its “success” rate is unknown, but when applied to the job search, “The Rules” actually includes good (gender-neutral) advice for the job seeker.

Here, the Top 10 Rules, as listed on Fein and Schneider’s Web site, and how you can apply them to your job search.

Rule No.1: Be a creature unlike any other.
This Rule entails adapting a sense of confidence that others around you will notice. As a job seeker, you certainly want to stand out among the competition, and one of the easiest ways you can get a potential employer to notice you is through your attitude. The authors also recommend pausing in between sentences (to avoid babbling out of nervousness), listening intently and standing up straight, all things that will also help job candidates convey poise and professionalism in an interview.

Rule No. 2: Show up to dances, parties and social events even if you do not feel like it.
This Rule emphasizes one of the most valuable steps in job-searching: networking. It’s hard to find The One if you’re sitting at home in front of a computer. Make an effort to meet new people and try new things, and you may just meet someone who knows of a job that’s perfect for you.

Rule No. 3: Don’t waste time on a fantasy relationship.
Be realistic in your job search. If you’re not getting any responses, look at the types of jobs to which you’re applying. Are you shooting too high, too soon? Of course you should apply for the job you want, but be aware of what you are and are not qualified for. If your dream is to be the editor-in-chief of a large metropolitan newspaper, you will probably need more experience than copy editor for your neighborhood newsletter.

Rule No. 4: On all nonbusiness e-mails, responding once for every four of his e-mails is a good rule of thumb.
Remember, you never know who has access to your e-mail, so keep all romance off the screen and save it for Saturday nights. Romance aside, this Rule is simply good workplace advice for keeping that job once you finally do get it.

Rule No. 5: On the first three dates, we don’t have sex with a man or have him stay at our place overnight.
At least when one replaces the word “date” with “interview” and “man” with “interviewer,” Rule No. 5 is definitely one to live by.

Rule No. 6: When placing your [personal] ad, remember that every man has a type, a voice or a look he likes.
Think of your cover letter as your personal ad, because in many ways it is your chance to make yourself sound attractive to employers. Tailor it to the wants and needs of the employer and the specific position for which you’re applying. You may be the best darn dart-player in all of Hancock County, but leave it out of your cover letter if it isn’t relevant to the type of job you’re seeking.

Rule No. 7: If he doesn’t call, he is not interested. Period.
Show interest, but don’t waste time on a company that’s just not responsive. When it comes to job hunting, it’s okay and often necessary to make the first move. You should always follow up a résumé with a call a few days later and send a thank-you note after an interview. But while it pays to be persistent, but don’t be annoying. If weeks pass by and you’ve still gotten no response, take a hint from this Rule and move on.

Rule No. 8: Close the deal.
The Rules are to a marriage proposal what these rules are to a job offer. If you get one, you’ve obviously done everything right. But remember that it’s okay to negotiate a salary. You wouldn’t accept a half-carat diamond ring when you know you deserve a three-quarter one, so if you know that the offer they’ve given you is less than you deserve, tell them that you believe you have the experience necessary to receive the higher end of the advertised salary range. Taking time to consider the offer, instead of accepting immediately, will demonstrate that you are thoughtful, knowledgeable and can hold your ground.

Rule No. 9: Buyer beware.
Observe his behavior so that you do not end up with Mr. Wrong. Remember that your interview is also a chance for you to ask questions and make assessments. Just because a company likes you does not mean that you will like that company. Consider whether the job and company you’re applying for are a true fit for you. Ask yourself if you could honestly see yourself working there. How does the boss treat his employees? Do the employees seem to like the company? Was the interviewer welcoming and interested in you? Your job search, much like your search for Mr. or Mrs. Right, is about finding a place that’s right for you.

Rule No. 10: Keep doing the Rules, even when things are slow.
Job hunting can be discouraging and exhausting, but remember that the final outcome will be worth all that perseverance. Cheer yourself on with some positive reinforcements (Fein and Schneider suggest building up your confidence with slogans such as “I am a beautiful woman” and “I am enough,” but feel free to exercise a little artistic license).
